Dodge Suprun

I am Dodge Suprun, a new New Yorker from Dallas, who attends the City College of New York majoring in economics. Previously, I attended the Townview School of Science and Engineering Magnet School (Townview SEM) in Dallas, Texas and was born in Manassas, Virginia. My résumé includes being a member of the National Honor Society and I have played baseball since I was 3.

I hope to earn a position with the CCNY Beavers in the springtime.

In high school I played as a switch hand pitcher (SHP) and infielder and will never forget pitching a four inning perfect game on twelve strike outs earlier in my career. It did not make national news, but was a big deal to me.

I also have played string bass and am an active member and coach of the National Hispanic Institute where I participated in Celebración 2018 in San Marcos and took part in the Great Debate at Austin College.

Dodge Ball Charity: Strike Out Kids Cancer Foundation

Finally, I started my own non-profit, Strike Out Kids Cancer Foundation, to bring baseball and other sports to kids with cancer and other medical conditions. We received our Determination Letter from the IRS so contributions are tax deductible. I have put on games which attracted local and national news attention in Dallas (TX), San Francisco (CA), St. Petersburg (FL), and other cities.

Many people ask questions about why I do this. Simple: when I was 6, I played teeball with a great kid who had brain cancer. We played in a Child Life Room with him before his surgery and treatment which stole much of his sight and hearing. A few years ago a teammate who came back to the dugout crying after a strikeout made me realize my friend Ben never cried facing down tragedy.

We all need that kind of courage and focus. He made me realize that we can all make a cancer patient’s day a little better with a kind word, a note of support, or just a little baseball or basketball. We can strike out cancer, together.
